A Set of 5″ x 5″ Flight Pattern Custom Fabric Art
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Here is an easy breezy home dec project! Create custom fabric art in a jiffy by tightly wrapping a gallery edge canvas with a favorite fabric. Create a grouping of assorted sizes of coordinating pieces for a WOW! effect.
Supplies Needed:
favorite fabric, gallery edge fine art canvas, heavy duty staple gun, felt piece, fabric glue, wall hanging bracket, hammer, scissors
Instructions:
1. Isolate a favorite fabric image and measure it’s dimensions…
( My samples above were made from my Flight Pattern fabric!)
2. Take a quick shopping trip to your local craft store that stocks gallery edge blank canvases…usually in the fine art department.
To explain, a “gallery” edge is deeper than a common canvas, but a standard canvas depth will work so don’t dispair if the gallery edge proves illusive! (A flat piece of canvas is NOT what you want, though- you really want some depth.)
3. Determine the standard frame size nearest to your measured art motif.
4. Rough cut the chosen fabric making sure to allow extra inches to accomodate the deep gallery edge on all sides, plus an extra inch or so.
5. Iron your chosen fabric well, and center your fabric design on the top of the canvas.
6. Begin to alternately tightly wrap and tack (with a heavy staple gun) your way around the canvas while keeping the design centered.
Using the scissors trim away any excess fabric as you work.
7. To finish, overlay and direct glue your tacked back with a piece of coordinating felt.
8. Add a wall hanging bracket centered on the top center of the canvas’s back using a hammer.
Enjoy your one of a kind custom fabric art pieces!
