Creative Idea for the Bon Vivant Bag Pattern~

February 9, 2012

Have you seen the latest issue of Creative Machine Embroidery Magazine? Recognize anything?

creative machine embroidery butterfly fabric bon vivant bag by ellen medlock

I’m so flattered that not only is the bag featured on the cover made using my Flight Pattern fabric line, but they have used my Bon Vivant Bag Pattern as well!

And can we talk about the embroidery down the center?  It’s just beautiful!

The talented author of the article is Sara Boughner Gallegos, who we think picked the perfect style and colors!

Be sure to pick up a copy so you can read her creative how-to on adding machine embroidery to this super bag.

Here’s a closer look:

Gorgeous!

When I created the Bon Vivant, I never thought about embroidery being added into the mix, but it fits perfectly with this bag style.

Thanks again to the wonderful staff at Creative Machine Embroidery for featuring some of my products in their awesome publication ~ and giving me a fresh dose of inspiration while doing so!

As always – Happy Sewing!

New! The Charmant Clutch Pattern~

October 8, 2011

So happy to finally have my new cover art completed for “The Charmant Clutch” bag pattern. It will be our Fall Market introduction!
Check  my website, www.ellenmedlock.om next week for pre-ordering. Expect it to ship the first week of November.

I have never had so much fun making samples, as with this fun pattern! Soooooo quick and simple!
Not only is this a NO-SEW project, we will also be stocking the cool clip-on Purse Hanger (butterfly silhouette), as well as the other charms- the silver key and lady bug are the first to arrive!

The fabric of the clutch on the cover is a very simple and classic gingham check called, “Take the Check”,  which is part of the new fabric line…due to arrive in March 2012,  “Natural Graffiti”.

More clutch images to come!

Thank you,

ellen

Custom Finish Minaudieres

August 28, 2011

I wanted to share this “recipe” so to speak for a custom finish that works so well on my DIY Heart and Classic Minaudiere’s!

Follow these easy steps to totally seal and protect the fabric that covers the Minaudiere!

1. Cover  the plastic shells that form the body of the Minaudiere per the instructions that accompany each Set. Allow the glue on the  fabric covered shells to dry.

2.  Before inserting the shells into the Minaudiere’s metal frame permanently- brush each shell with a generous coating of Gloss Finish      Mod Podge.

3. Once the Mod Podge is completely dry to the touch, spray the shells with a Gloss Finish Clear Acrylic Spray sealant. (this basically seals the Mod Podge which can become tacky in humid conditions!)

When dry, return to the instruction that came with your Minaudiere Set. You are now ready to glue the shells into the metal frame to finish your darling DIY mini-purse project!

NEW! Interchangeable4 Pattern & Handle

April 28, 2011

I’m so excited to announce the arrival (finally!) of my newest Interchangeable bag pattern – the Interchangeable4!
It was delivered to the Studio today, and we immediately began shipping your preorders.

This shoulder bag is right on trend with it’s larger size and rounded shape. And of course – it’s Interchangeable! Just switch out the bag body and reuse the handle. The Interchangeable line has proven to be very popular, and it was time to introduce something a little larger and roomier. One of the interior pockets even has room to hold an Ipad, Kindle, or a Nook.

Please note that this bag was designed specifically for the 12″wide Interchangeable4 metal purse frame, which is sold separately from the pattern. Why not attach a cute 21″ clip-on bag chain to complete your look?

I hope you will love it as much as I do!

Hey, found your bag!

July 28, 2010

I think I found your bag! or at least your NEXT bag hopefully! This is The Provence Bag, an easy to sew bag pattern from Ellen Medlock Studio. Available as both a traditional paper pattern booklet, or a pdf bag pattern download (exactly the same as the booklet, including the front and back cover). Three bag sizes are written into this one pattern~ think Mom, Tween, and Tot!

I will always remembering a great idea that a quilt shop came up with…each employee made this pattern, but chose a different fabric combination from the current fabric mix within the shop….then all bags were displayed throughout the shop with the employees name! How cute, and what a grand show!

The Provence has also been called “the potato chip bag” due to the fact “you can’t make just ONE!” Ha! Many crafters have used this pattern in conjunction with purchasing a Crafters License, and sold during craft shows. If you are looking for an easy beginner bag sewing pattern, you have found it..waiting for you on a park bench no less!

many thanks!

Bag Shoot! ~ Woodward Park, Tulsa

July 14, 2010

Inspite of an “Excessive Heat Warning” today in Oklahoma, Brittany, Evan and I set out on a photographic adventure in gorgeous Woodward Park, Tulsa early this morning. It was a lot of fun, and we feel there are some darling new bag sewing pattern covers ready to be born! Ha!  Don’t you love my cousins cool vintage bike? Mary’s bike is on loan, and usually lives in her whimsical garden. (hope to share images of the unique garden soon!)

Here are a few more images!  An Album of many more from the Bag Photo Shoot can be found on my Flickr collection.
Thanks for stopping by!

No-Sew Market Bag

July 8, 2010

Hi there! Today Martha Stewart’s Craft of the Day was this ingenious No-Sew Market Bag! I used her free downloadable bag pattern~ then cut approx. 18″ x 24″ piece of my new Spring Dot_citrus fabric…cut, cut,cut with my smallest rotary cutting blade with the printed template on top of my fabric, then VOILA! a No Sew Market Bag was born! Ha!
I will use a liquid seam sealant such as FrayCheck to prevent fraying along the fabric cuts.
This craft was designed for ultra suede, and I can see why, but hey~ ya use what ya got sometimes!

The Bon Vivant Bag Pattern

May 5, 2010

Are you a Bon Vivant? Absolutely!
(French noun~   a  person with refined tastes, who knows how to live and enjoys the “good life”!)

I would like to introduce my new bag sewing pattern, the Bon Vivant~ featuring my studio’s new fabric, Enchanted Damask.
The Fuchsia colorway of both Enchanted Damask, and it’s coordinating Spring Dot were used for the bag sample on the front cover of the pattern~ I hope they will both be coming to a quilt/sewing shop near you in the next few weeks! Please ask for them locally, and know they are always in my webstore, if not at your fav shop YET!

Consider the Bon Vivant Bag a sturdy and roomy companion for your “good life”. Ready for any occasion! Designed with a double row of pockets to ensure ease of organization. A Twist Lock closure adds security and a professional flair!
Approximate Finished Size:  14 ½” h. x 14 ¾” w. x  8”d. (at widest point.)  Shoulder Straps are 22” L, but may be customized.

Very excited to add a new bag accessory, Twist Locks, to my product line. They will be available in either Silver or Gold finish. I will write more about how to use them in your bag making projects soon! (step by step detailed instructions are in the pattern of course!) Not sure that you can see them, but Purse Feet are an option here too!

By the way, the body of this large bag has a secret component that will make it a standout among larger style DIY bags! Try one, and see!

Thank you for your continued support of my bagmaking mania!

My ship has literally “come in”! Please allow me to introduce  my new tiny but mighty fabric line, Enchanted Damask! Three colorways are available- Citrus, Turquoise and Fuchsia for the Damask design and it’s coordinating Spring Dot.
